With new social networks popping up every day, it can be difficult to keep track of them all.For the most part they’re basically all versions of the same thing. However, factors like audience, message type, and appropriate tone vary between each social media outlet. Choosing the right network for your company is key.

Twitter is all about staying in the loop, provided that loop is 140 characters or less. This makes Twitter the ideal platform for posting brief news updates. That news may be directly related to your company or about your industry as a whole. Concerned about the 140 character limit? Don’t worry; it’s easy to include images and links to outside sources.The positive side of this constraint is that it keeps your followers interested without demanding too much of their time.
Here’s a helpful hint. Customize your Twitter feed by only following like-minded users. Those users might be industry thought leaders, major brands, celebrities, or even just your friends. Eventually, this feed will become a valuable resource, geared toward your interests.
LinkedIn can be considered the professional alternative to Facebook. It’s a great way to keep your work life and social life separate. This site allows people to create online résumés and connect with other users in a more business-minded online environment. Instead of funny cat videos, you’ll see people sharing articles about “5 Important Questions to Ask in Your Next Interview” and things of that nature.
What does this mean for your company? Well, you most likely have employees. In the future, you’ll probably want more. LinkedIn is perfect for staying connected with current co-workers and formally presenting your business to potential employees. You can connect with clients on this platform as well (because, again, some things just aren’t right for Facebook)!
